LOCO OVER LEOQUE

Thanks to my office buddy S, I stumbled upon this interesting furniture site. I am officially saying goodbye to knockdown, wood laminated furniture because I can actually have REAL wood furniture at just a fraction of the price.

At the moment I have zeroed in on some choice pieces, which I plan to score next payday (insert crossed fingrs here). Check them out...
Affordable, tasteful and durable. I am positive I need not have to take countless furniture "medical travels" because I have been told that these pieces are sturdy as ever.

I am so sorry Stam. You would have to wait.

GOT A BUSINESS?

Celebrating the inherent Pinoy entrepreneurial nature, PLDT-SME Nation is launching SUKI the first business-networking site that enables entrepreneurs to interact and transact with their digital customers in a social community-networking set-up. The launch will happen at the Legazpi Sunday Market grounds in Makati on Oct. 18, which is open for everyone.

With the onset of the digital market scene, small-and-medium enterprises (SME) now have the opportunity to tap into a wider customer base, both locally and globally through the Internet.

PLDT-SME Nation’s Suki is a specialized networking site dedicated to entrepreneurs who want to go into selling and promoting their products and services online. Say for example the Monaco Rare Coin, it can promote its expertise on precious stones and coin collection referrals. It can also allow collectors who share the same passion to network and interact with one another.

The Suki site serves as a venue for a user-friendly online community of small and medium enterprises (SME), allowing them to do business with customers and fellow SMEs.

To know more about the wonderful world of Suki, see you at the Legazpi Sunday Market tomorrow!

IZAKAYA KIKUFUJI

The name can be quite a mouthful, but wait till you get a mouthful of the gastronomic delights from this quait little japanese place along Pasong Tamo!

Kikufuji has earned great reviews from foodies, especially the lunch crowd because of their affordable bentos and combos. Just imagine, for a little over 200 bucks, you get yourself a serving of miso soup, rice, and dessert (I usually go for the iced coffee!) which come bundled with sashimi...

cold salad...
hot veggie salad...
and your choice of a rice meal. My favorite is the tempura but during my last visit, I opted for good old katsudon!
Plus, you get to down all these with bottomless house tea! With an upcoming wedding this December, God help point me to a fast weight loss regimen.

WHAT TO DO WITH P20.00?

Let me count the ways.

Have yourself two stickloads of fishballs from the neighborhood pica-pica stand (our favorite is Potdog)...
Ride an automated animal at Market! Market! for 5 minutes...
Cheap and fun. Easy on the pocket and on the body (no need for those best weight loss pills). Pure bliss.

CHARACTER CAKES, ANYONE?

For the past years, the cakes from Kitchen Krafts (ordered via our "suking" party planner, Party Station) have always taken centerstage in all of my son's birthday parties. And this year was no exception.
With the perfect combination of great craftsmanship, quick turnaround and reasonable pricing, how can one go wrong? And it goes without saying that their cakes and cupcakes, especially their chocolate flavored ones are the B-E-S-T (never mind if I would have to resort to
top weight loss pills sometime soon)!

This year, due to unavoidable circumstances, Party Station was kind enough to allow me to directly coordinate with Kitchen Krafts and everything was a breeze. And I hope your party planning team up with Kitchen Krafts would be fab too. Happy planning!

FLOOD PROOF YOUR CAR

Ondoy's nonstop rains last week submerged scores of vehicles in Metro Manila, resulting in damage to car engines, interiors, even chrome accessories.

TopGear suggests several practical tips to keep in mind before and after a flood to at least mitigate the damage that it will inflict on our cars. Here they are:

1. If you're still scouting for a place to live in, try to choose an area that is not prone to flooding.

2. If you're joining a new company, determine whether its office location has a tendency to be inundated with rainwater. If it does, look for a relatively high ground to park your car at. Flash floods occur very quickly.

3. Familiarize your daily route to and from work. Which streets easily flood? Can you avoid passing through these streets when it's raining?

4. If you live in a flood-prone area, be sure to specify to your car-insurance agent that you want "acts of God" to be stipulated in your policy. Your peace of mind is definitely worth the extra premium.

5. If possible, raise the level of your garage to a significantly higher plane than the main road. A mere six inches could spell the difference between a dry car and a doomed one.

6. If you encounter a flooded street with water as high as your car's doorsill, turn back or find a high parking ground. There's a good chance you will stall in the middle of the flood. Don't take chances.

7. If the floodwater is still passable, drive slowly and in first gear, your right foot constantly pressed on the gas pedal. The goal is to keep going without stalling the engine, because water will get into your exhaust pipe if you bog down even momentarily.

8. If you do stall in deep water-particularly floodwater that already reaches the base of your windshield-call for help and have your car towed. The same goes for when your parked car has been submerged in water. Do not attempt to start the engine. You will severely damage your car if water has already found its way into the engine and powertrain components. The oil, the oil filter, the transmission fluid and the brake fluid will all have to be changed.

9. Disconnect the battery until everything has dried. Common sense dictates that electric current and water don't mix.

10. If your cabin has been penetrated by floodwater, have it cleaned and restored by a professional car-interior detailer. If the water has soiled the seats beyond redemption, have them reupholstered. Of course, the bottom line to all of these tips is this: If the total cost of all the repairs is already unreasonably high, just buy yourself a new car.
